Period 5 Film Studies I have decided to make these assignments due Thursday. Film Essay Group: After reading the essay on Do the Right Thing (below), answer the prompt on Piazza in two paragraphs. What are the main points the author is trying to make? How does the author make those points effectively? Cite specific moments. Keep in mind... This is a strong film essay that does the following things well: a. It is grounded in the film itself (evidence): the characters, scenes, events, and camera. b. It helps us interpret and understand something about the film that we might have missed (claim). c. It talks as if you have seen or are familiar with the film (it is not spoiler free). d. It leaves the reader with a strong conclusion about the film (thesis) (this essay is actually only the first half of a longer essay, so you don't get the full conclusion) Film Review Group: Read the two film reviews below. Choose one about which you will answer the following questions. Respond in two paragraphs. 1. Matthew Rozsa on Aladdin 2. Michael O'Sullivan on Aladdin Prompts: What is the reviewer’s overall opinion of the film? What do they say are the film’s strengths? What do they say are the film’s weaknesses? Is there any DEEPER criticism besides just the quality of the film itself? How does the reviewer structure the review? Description and then critique/analysis? Back and forth between the two elements?
